How to photograph your best work

Taking photographs of your work is a great way to keep a record of the projects you are most proud of. You can then also use these to promote your business and show off the great work you do! Great photographs of your work can help do the talking for you and win yourself future jobs. Here are 5 simple steps to help you take the best photographs of your work:

1 - Let in the light

Ensure that when taking your image the room is well lit- preferably with natural light to ensure you get the best quality from the device you are using. Some artificial lighting can make images look yellow tinged so daylight works best. It also makes sure your image is clear and shows the colour you have used in the best way.

2 - Clear the space

By removing all your materials and equipment this will ensure the image is less cluttered and the focal point will then be the great work you have just done. By having some of the customers own furnishings & accessories in the image this makes the space look more complete and allows future customers to see the new space styled which may be more appealing.

3 - Play with angles

Have a look at different angles when taking your photograph. It may be depending on the shape of the space you have decorated that some angles may work better than others.

Examples of this would be: Shooting straight on Shooting into the corners for depth Stepping back for scale- enabling more of the room to be seen

4 - Move your focal point off centre

Adjusting your focal point can also allow you to capture more of the space around. Having the focal point slightly off centre can give your photographs a more professional feel!

5 - Show the details your past clients loved

If you have created something you are particularly proud of such as any artistic detailing, murals, patterns, urban effects etc- keeping a record of these shows your attention to detail and may really impress a future client who is looking for something a bit different!

This Video will show you some examples of all of the steps above.
