Dulux Trade customers commended at annual decorating awards

Dulux Trade customers received four prestigious industry awards at the Painting and Decorating Association Premier Trophy Awards 2019.

The awards, now in their 31st year, recognise the highest standards of excellence in the industry, showcasing the diversity of skill and craft across the UK.

Ambrose Ellis Painting Contractors Ltd won the New Build category, Axis Europe Plc were winners for Highly Decorative, Cousins Group were recognised for their work in the Residential category and UK Decs Ltd were chosen as winners in the Commercial category.

In addition, 14 Dulux Trade customers were also highly commended or commended for their work on a range of projects.

New Build

In the New Build category, Ambrose Ellis Painting Contractors Ltd, who specialise in medical projects, were announced as winners for their work decorating a state-of-the-art new building at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

The judges remarked that “the project was well managed which allowed areas to be decorated in advance of the large scale M&E installation”.

Highly Decorative

In the Highly Decorative category, Axis Europe Plc - a member of the Dulux Trade Contract Partnership scheme - were crowned winners for their work on the Painter-Stainers’ Hall in London, a stunning Grade II listed building opened in 1961.

The works specified full redecoration of the walls and ceiling, windows and dados; repair and replacement of damaged timber floor planks and the sanding, lacquering and French polishing of the repaired flooring, restoration of the timber panels that surround the Banqueting Hall and the timber doors; refurbishment of the silver display cabinet and redecoration of the dome lighting.

For the decoration elements of the 2018 project, Axis Europe called on the expertise of Dulux Trade to ensure that the history and high expectations of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers were carefully considered when it came to giving the Hall the beautiful, sympathetic and period-appropriate re-decoration that it needed.

In planning, colour matching, producing samples and finally carrying out the application, specialists from Dulux Trade provided reassurance every step of the way.

The judges commended the project for “a great finish to produce a very bright environment for hosting functions”.

Residential

Cousins Group were recognised in the Residential category for their work on a fit out from shell of a Signature Living care home in Reigate, Surrey. Described by the judges as “an excellent finish” the contractor was commended for their superior work to tight timescales, with Dulux Trade paints used throughout the project.

Commercial

UK Decs Ltd were victorious in the Commercial category for the multi-million-pound refurbishment of the Mayflower Theatre, a Grade II listed theatre in Southampton.

More than 1,000 litres of Dulux Trade paint was applied across the refurbishment, helping to transform the space from its 1980s paint scheme to a beautiful, intimate feel - for 21st century use.

The judges found that “the finished work is a credit to the profession and the contractor should be very proud of the project”.

The awards were given out at a ceremony attended by early 200 members and associate partners of the Painting and Decorating Association at the impressive Plaisterers’ Hall in London.

John Kourtoulos, Sales Director Contractor / Specifier at Dulux Trade said: “To see so many of our customers recognised for their incredible skill and decorating expertise is fantastic.

“We’re proud to be able to provide a range of quality products and a knowledgeable technical team to help painting contractors to complete these exciting and inspirational projects for their clients.”
