Colville Primary School

Colville Primary School

Our school has moved from the bottom 200 schools to the top 200 over the last few years. A large part of this change has been due to how we use our school site and how we use it to foster a learning culture. We have ensured that learning is visible from the kerbside; passers-by are treated to a glimpse as they see our edible garden.

As you enter our school the library provides a haven to read in and the bespoke design includes a five metre tree and mosaics that invite the mind's eye to wander towards the books. On the ground floor, 'Le Bistro' is where we serve our lunches and the restaurant feel enables pupil to sit in the round and talk to their friends as they partake in lunch.

The playgrounds are landscaped to ensure that a green line encompasses the playground to clean the air our children breathe. An Edwardian shelter and out building have been converted; these modern spaces are filled with natural light and wood.

Over the next two years, each classroom will be refurbished and the school will be completely refreshed by September 2018.

Jagdeep Birdi is head teacher of Colville Primary School in London.
